It was a playoff type atmosphere at Memorial Hall, and its only the first game of the season. During the Hornets 63-56 victory over Washington Adventist back on November 14, the young Hornets made a lot of mistakes that would've cost DSU the game.
-The Hornets were shooting their shots in a hurry on fast breaks instead of setting up on offense like they always do. Some of their shots were off target and some of their shots didn't even hit the rim. Plus there was also a fastbreak missed dunk by Marques Oliver that made hornet fans riot Memorial Hall and forcing coach Greg Jackson to take him out of the game for a few minutes. No wonder DSU shot 36% from the field and 31% from three point land.
-The Hornets second mistake was turnovers, turnovers, turnovers. The Hornets made 15 turnovers in that game and made coach Jackson scratching his head and looking for answers. Once again they didn't slow down the ball during most of the game.
-Last but not least missing a lot of free throws. DSU made their 1st three free throws in the 1st half, but in the second half the Hornets shot 48% from the free throw line and 54% for the game. Hornets practice your free throws.
This is a very young Hornets team that has a lot of work to do in so little time this season. DSU has to mature every single game in order to compete for a MEAC Championship come March.
